Southside's Bass Tournament

Southside Baptist Church recently held their Fourth Annual “No Entry Fee Bass Tournament” and banquet, with over 300 people attending the banquet and 113 boats signing up to fish the tournament.

The Tournament banquet was held Thursday, September 24 at Southside Baptist Church. B.A.S.S. Pro Angler Randy Howell from Springville, Ala. and B.A.S.S. tour chaplain Chris Wells, WellSpoken Ministries, Greer, S. C., entertained the crowd with highlights from the tournament trail, as well as delivering their testimony and God’s word to a full house, where 19 people were saved and 25 people rededicated their lives to Christ. Both Howell and Wells spend their time off the tournament trail sharing the Gospel in hopes others will come to know Jesus as they do. Just the week before, Howell finished fifth in the Angler of the Year competition on the Alabama River and qualified for his ninth Bassmaster Classic, which will be held in February 2010 in Birmingham.

Despite torrential rains the week prior and the day of the tournament, 100 boats showed up to fish on Saturday, September 26 at Aliceville Lake in Pickensville, Ala. The weather didn’t slow down the anglers or the fish, with 220 bass brought to the scales weighing over 440 pounds. Father and son team Bryan and Kyle Aldridge from Kennedy, Ala. brought the big stringer to the scales, five bass that weighed 18.74 pounds. Kyle also weighed the lunker of the day, a largemouth weighing 5.39 pounds. Kyle Shaw and Lennis Crimm from Millport took home the money for second place with a stringer of five bass that weighed 14.61 pounds. Third place honors went to Kellis Higginbotham and Michael King, Brooksville, Miss., weighing in five fish at 14.19 pounds.

Southside Baptist Church would like to thank those who generously made donations to help make the banquet and tournament possible. Also, a big thank you to Unity Baptist Church for battling the weather to provide hotdogs and drinks to the anglers and tournament workers during the day on Saturday.
